Colorful, Botanical Micro Wedding at La Villa

Kristin and I were friends from way back. She was one of the founders of a great book club, an effortlessly cool and well-traveled woman with a chic apartment straight from Pinterest. She had met Brandt shortly after we met, a kind yet driven and level headed man whose adoring support would rival your favorite book boyfriend. They let one another shine, but loved doing it together.

They reached out after it had been several years and several moves since we had last hung out. I had been planning intimate weddings for a few years, and they were interested in having a micro wedding where I now lived in Kansas City. Small world! And what an honor. We got to work designing something that felt a lot like them.

Kristen and Brandt didn't want a big production of a wedding. They wanted the ceremony to feel elevated and special, and then they wanted to go out to dinner with their families. Afterward the festivities they'd cross off a bucket list location for the honeymoon, buy a house, and adopt a dog. A Cake and Champagne style wedding gave them the opportunity to elevate what mattered most while keeping things overall simple. It was practical, chic, and effortlessly cool- just like them.

La Villa's intimate El Patio was the perfect place for a ceremony, cocktails, charcuterie, and cake. We found ways to incorporate a few of their favorite things like live music, Veuve Clicquot, a gorgeous assembly of plants from a local nursery, and a vintage getaway car. They enjoyed a private room at Pierponts at Union Station afterward, giving all their out of town guests a quintessentially KC experience. What a cool way to celebrate.

For so many reasons, this La Villa wedding will always be close to my heart. I hope it inspires more chic little celebrations. Enjoy:
